The Hidden Advantages Of Marriage
In today's world, marriage seems to be more of a secondary option due to the conditioning of telling young people that a career is much more important than building a family. It seems that putting marriage on hold and not having kids is the best way to live a happy, satisfying life. Well, we can certainly say that's not true. In fact, many people these days end up getting married much later in life. Then suddenly they decide they want kids, only to find that they are too old. Woman are at their best fertility when they're in their 20s, and yet we tell them not to get married and focus on their career. We also see that these days many women don't want a husband and kids. Not saying they can't live a good life single, but they do lose the benefit of having a wonderful husband to help anchor them when the storm hits.
Obviously, it's not bad if you want to live the rest of your life single. Some people might find enjoyment in living life independently, but are they truly happy? The majority of people who live like this are often very lonely and sad. Even if they don't admit it, they don't have a spouse to go home to every day. In fact, many people end up getting cats or other pets because they genuinely enjoy them. People naturally have a nurturing instinct, and when they don't have a household to do it for, they buy cats or dogs instead. Also, even if you find enjoyment in your career in your early twenties, you might look back and realize that pretty much all you think about is work when you come home and leave the house. Is that really how you want to spend your life?
Think about it: if you work eight hours a day Monday through Friday, you might begin to wonder what is missing in your life. For example, is there more than just working a corporate job? Of course, it's just that most of us forget about it, because we have been conditioned to make that the number one priority in our lives. Not that marriage is necessarily the answer to all happiness, but it's rather nice to go home and hang out with your spouse. In fact, it's nice in general to share a life with another person. It can be rather rewarding in many ways.
Most young people today don't want to admit it, but marriage also provides more of a purpose in life. It also teaches us to be less selfish, because if you spend the rest of your adult life alone, you will find that it becomes a lot harder to be generous. Then you have to think about the fact that you don't stay young forever, and wouldn't it be nice to have children and grandchildren around as you age? That's one of the biggest benefits in life you won't have when choosing this route in life. Not to talk badly about anyone's choices, but we seem to forget about our later years when we are young and energetic. There is only so long a career lasts, and do you want to retire and have no grandkids to hang out with?
Studies have shown that people who get married and have kids have a better chance at living longer than people who stay single and only focus on their career. Also, having grandchildren in your life helps with living a longer life. Most young people today think living life to your fullest means having parties while you're young with friends and doing drugs. Oftentimes, these young people who continue living this way later in life end up living a shorter life. But most of these people who think this way have told me they don't want to get old and not be able to take care of themselves when they're old. It's sad to see, but it's true; it's like we seem to spend a lot of time feeling like we'll be young forever, until we get old and look back on our lives and wish we lived them differently.
Again, some people might want to live their lives this way, but others might truly not want to be alone. Although we are beginning to see that these days, people may not want to get married, but claim they can have committed relationships with someone outside of that. Like people want all the benefits, without fully committing for whatever reason, because they're afraid. It's like one of those things that gives you a false sense of security, but it's not really a true committed relationship. It's really odd to look at, but that seems to be the route a lot of young people are going when it comes to romantic relationships today. People also seem to think that marriage is nothing more than signing a contract for life, which, yes, to be considered in the States, you have to sign a contract. But that's not really what marriage is. It's a lot more than that; it's also choosing who you want to spend the rest of your life with, that person as well.
Another wonderful thing that comes with getting married and having children is that it teaches you to sacrifice your life for others. For example, if you have children, you have to think about how you're going to feed them, raise them, and keep them on a schedule. A lot of times, you won't have time to do things you might want to do, because your complete focus is on your kids. That's not a bad thing; in fact, a lot of parents who do have kids find more fulfillment in their lives. Oftentimes, kids grow up very fast, and I think a lot of people forget that children are not little forever. As much as it may feel that way, the years will go by faster than you think. Before you know it, your child will be grown, and then you might not know what to do with yourself after that, because you spent so much of your marriage taking care of your children. In a way, it gives you the chance to look back on your marriage with your spouse and think about the amazing accomplishments you made raising your kids.
Whatever it may be you want to do with your life, getting married and building a life with someone can be one of the most rewarding things in life. Careers are a wonderful thing to dream about, but that can become something you tie your whole identity to, which can become unhealthy. Also, for women with traditional values, it's so nice to have a good husband to help with your life. In fact, you're more likely to have better stability in life if you're married, and you might even be happier. Obviously, make sure to marry someone you can trust and who can provide. At the end of the day, what matters most is building a life that is going to best suit you, and that's going to look different for everyone, but most people who do marry well do have a higher chance of living a longer, happier life, not because their spouse completes them, but because it gives someone a more purposeful, satisfying life.
