The Art Of The Page
Journaling is a wonderful way to get your thoughts onto paper. You might wonder why you would ever want to do that. Isn't it way too much work to do at the end of the day? The truth is, it really isn't if it's something you're just trying to get out. For example, maybe you have these strong feelings for someone, but don't know how to overcome them. So you decide to go to the store and buy a journal.
In doing so, you might be looking online, or maybe you go to Target or something, and just see multiple shelves of journals, but you don't know which one to get. Also, you might want to buy some really nice pens to get with it. Then you go over to the sections where all the pens are, and notice you have so many options. This can be one of the hardest things, because you might want one pen, and then want another, if you're picky. If you don't care that much, it's easy just to grab a pen and get on with your day.
Once you've found your pens, you might go back to the section where all the journals are, and you can't decide whether you want a nice journal or something cheap and simple. If it's something you want to last, you would probably buy a nice leather cover, with a set of beautiful pages with designs, maybe, or you prefer a simple blank layout. Whatever it may be, choose what you think would best suit you. After that, you can then check out online or in the store, and just daydream about what it is you want to write about and just sit with the wonderful thought.
It's always amazing to get out the journal and pen, and just see what comes out, because you will never know until you put the pen to paper. Once you do, it's the most satisfying feeling in your life, especially in a world where handwriting isn't as popular anymore. In fact, it's almost rare due to the fact that we can just open up our phone or computer and just type everything out easily. It takes a lot more effort to sit down and form each letter from scratch, but I can most certainly say you feel a lot more satisfied after writing with a pen than a keyboard.
Although you might find that your handwriting might not look as legible as you might have thought, and you might notice that even you can't read it. That is one of the biggest problems many of us have today. We just never cared about making our writing look clean, because at the end of the day, we just type everything out on the computer. It's not bad, but that's just insight into what we do, because we have become extremely dependent on technology to write stuff, rather than sitting down and writing with a pen and paper.
Personally, when I journal, I love to sit down and write in the most flowing cursive I can possibly do. Why? Because for me, it's like telling a story beyond words. It's like every stroke speaks more than the words themselves sometimes. Which I find to be one of the most rewarding things about handwriting that the majority of us miss out on today.
Anyway, have you ever wondered how journaling can help with your life? Well, there are many benefits to doing this every day, because it allows you to process your life and thoughts. Maybe you're going through something hard, and you just need to say something, but don't know where to say it. That is one of the best times to ever get out your journal, because in those moments, you can just let go and see what you're going through by seeing your own thoughts written out on the page.
Another thing that's beneficial about journaling is that you can look back five, ten years later, and be shocked by the person you used to be. It's always interesting to look at your past self and see how much you've changed over the years. Who knows, maybe you can have your journals looked at by your kids and grandkids, and they can read the wonderful stories of your thoughts. Unless you don't want them to, but at the end of the day, it's really up to you whether you keep it secret or not. Personally, I would leave it for my kids and grandkids to eventually look at in the future if they wanted to know more about me. Other than that, journaling is just a great way to process your thoughts, and if you haven't tried it, it's never too late to start.
